About Leaderboards & Rankings
Leaderboards on Plato "refresh" weekly. If you have over 1200 rating in any game, you'll need to play that game once every 7 days to maintain your rating.
Leaderboards will also hide rankings for anyone who hasn't played in the last 21 days. Playing that game again will return you to its leaderboard.
About Ratings
Ratings on Plato are determined based on a modified Elo Rating system. Elo Rating is a system that calculates the relative strength of a player against others and is used in professional Chess.
Plato caps ratings at 2200.
Winning a game earns you a positive rating, while losing a game earns you a negative rating.
As the Rating system considers the strength of each player, winning against higher skilled opponents will result in higher rating increases.
On the flip side, losing against a weaker opponent will result in more rating loss. Additionally, the higher your rating, the more difficult it will be to climb and the more punishing losses will be.
About Levels
tl;dr
- You gain XP (experience points) for winning or completing games. You'll receive 2x more XP by winning a game.
- You don't gain XP if you forfeit, resign early, or the game is canceled.
- You'll also unlock titles as you level up.
Tracking your Levels
Your profile page now tracks your level progress for each game, along with other information like your ranking and rating.
You'll also see a brief in-app notification when you gain experience that will help you track your progress to the next level.
Gaining XP
There are two ways to gain XP: completing games and winning games. You gain twice as much XP for winning a game than you do for just completing a game. Both competitive and friendly games award XP, so every game helps you climb.
Don't go AFK though! If you forfeit, resign early, or auto-move for multiple game rounds, you won't earn XP. If a game is cancelled for some other reason, XP also isn't earned.
Finally, you can't lose XP for any reason.
Earning Titles
As you level up, you'll also unlock titles, which will also show on your new profile page.
